Dr Aravind Kumar is an orthopaedic and spine surgeon at Parkway East Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His specialty is in spine surgery. He treats tumours, degenerative conditions (spinal stenosis, cervical myelopathy and scoliosis), fractures, slipped discs, and back and neck pain. He also has extensive experience in spinal surgery including minimally invasive spinal surgery.
He was a senior consultant in orthopaedic and spine surgery at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). At KTPH, he initiated a one-stop clinic for lower back pain.
After graduating from Madras Medical College in India, Dr Kumar undertook training in orthopaedic surgery in the UK. Upon receiving his bachelor degrees, he entered higher training in Cardiff and attained his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, UK. He went on to take training in spinal surgery and spent 18 months at the spine unit in Cardiff. This was followed by spinal surgery fellowships at the Royal Perth Hospital in Australia and then at the Nottingham Spinal Unit, UK. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK.
Besides clinical work, he is currently an adjunct assistant professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore.
Dr Kumar has several publications and international presentations on spinal surgery. He is a recipient of the KTPH Clinical Service Champion Award for two years.
