Dr David Paul Bell graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1995. He obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in October 2000 and was conferred the Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedics by the Academy of Medicine of Singapore in April 2002. He completed training in Orthopaedic Surgery and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Orthopaedics) in November 2005.
He was awarded the Ministry of Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) Scholarship to train at the Charite University in Berlin, Germany in the specialist fields of Adult Reconstruction in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty and management of complex musculoskeletal trauma. Prior to coming on board at Island Orthopaedics, he was Consultant and Director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Service at Changi General Hospital (CGH), and Clinical Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
He is also active in medical education, having received the Orthopaedic Teaching Excellence Award annually from 2004 till the present. He is also a member of the AO International Alumni, and has served as chairman and instructor for numerous international and regional instructional courses.
In addition, Dr Bell was also actively involved as an NSmen Medical Officer in the Singapore Navy, being a certified Designated Factory Doctor for Compressed Air Works and having been involved in the hyperbaric treatment of divers with decompression illness and also patients with poorly healing wounds.
Dr Bell's sub-specialty interests are in joint replacement surgery, trauma and reconstructive surgery. Common procedures performed by Dr Bell include: post-traumatic reconstructive surgery using minimally invasive techniques, surgery for deformity correction., hip and knee joint replacement surgery using minimally invasive techniques, knee replacement surgery using computer navigation and minimally invasive surgery, knee arthroscopy including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, meniscus repair and cartilage repair, fracture surgery for the pelvis, upper and lower limbs and arthroscopic surgery and complex joint reconstruction.
