Dr Jean Chai is an ophthalmologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
Her areas of clinical expertise include cataract and general ophthalmology, and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery).
She is also experienced in the use of premium lenses (toric and multifocal lenses), corneal and external eye diseases (e.g. dry eyes, blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction, allergic eye diseases, conjunctivitis, infectious keratitis, pterygium), corneal surgery including pterygium surgery, corneal transplantation, LASIK (femtosecond), and other refractive surgical options.
She graduated from the National University of Singapore. She is a fellow of the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She received her ophthalmology specialist training at the Singapore National Eye Centre and trained in the subspecialty of corneal and refractive surgery. She furthered her training under the Health Manpower Development Plan award for her fellowship in New York, USA.
Prior to joining private practice, she was an assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, clinical senior lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the programme director of the SingHealth ophthalmology residency programme.
Dr Chai has authored several publications in international journals, book chapters and has lectured in regional and international conferences. She also received several awards including the Service with a Heart Award.
