Dr Jerry Chen is an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His clinical interests include hip and knee conditions, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), sports injuries, fracture treatment and joint replacement surgeries.
Dr Chen graduated from the National University of Singapore and subsequently obtained his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. He also underwent clinical fellowship trainings in Switzerland, Germany, China and the UK.
He led the workgroup for ERAS for knee replacement surgery at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), focusing on enhancing patients’ recovery journey after surgery.
Dr Chen served as the clinician lead for total hip replacement for SGH’s value-driven care (VDC) workgroup and has been part of the taskforce for the national surgical quality improvement programme, which conducts audits of surgical outcomes.
Apart from his clinical duties, he has published over 100 scientific papers and book chapters, reporting on surgical techniques and clinical care that improve patients’ care. He conducts webinars for orthopaedic surgeons in the region on minimally invasive and computer-assisted surgeries.
He has served as a co-convenor for previous final-year medical students’ Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery examinations. He is currently a clinical associate professor at Duke-NUS Medical School.
