Dr Chew Chee Ping is an orthopaedic surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
He specialises in shoulder and knee surgery, arthroscopic sports surgery and the management of sports-related injuries. He also has experience in general orthopaedic conditions such as trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, hallux valgus (bunion), hip arthritis, knee arthritis, prolapsed intervertebral discs, and lumps and bumps of the extremities.
Prior to private practice, he was the clinical lead in the sports service and consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Sengkang General Hospital. He was also a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
Dr Chew received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS). After completing his specialist training at SGH and obtaining a Health Manpower Development Plan award, he did a 1-year clinical fellowship at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany. There, he trained in shoulder and knee surgery (open and arthroscopic) and lower limb arthroplasty. This was followed by an AO Trauma fellowship in Bern, Switzerland, managing shoulder injuries and degenerative conditions.
During his stint at restructured hospitals, he was involved in training orthopaedic residents and teaching medical students. He was an examiner for the final Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery exam, clinical physician faculty member of the SingHealth orthopaedic surgery residency programme, and clinical lecturer at NUS’ Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Dr Chew has chaired or was an invited faculty for local and regional courses such as the AO Trauma courses (basic/advanced/ORP), Mitek intermediate and advanced shoulder arthroscopy courses, and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital’s cadaveric shoulder course.
He has presented at international orthopaedic conferences and has published in several peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals. He is also a reviewer for both local and international journals, and was recognised for his efforts by being awarded the Reviewing with Distinction Award by the Singapore Medical Journal for three consecutive years.
Since 2014, he has performed more than 1,500 arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, knee and ankle. He is a recipient of the Service with a Heart Award at SGH and the You Sparkle! Award (silver) at Sengkang General Hospital.
