Dr Christopher Chong is a urogynaecologist and obstetrician & gynaecologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
His subspecialty includes cystocele mesh repair surgery, laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery, prolapse, incontinence and pelvic floor reconstruction surgery, surgery using the Tension-free Vaginal Tape (TVT) sling procedure, and vaginal rejuvenation (vaginoplasty).
He introduced the use of the mesh in the treatment of severe utero-vaginal prolapse and was one of the earliest in Asia to perform the Sling surgeries and Botox injections into the bladder for management of overactive bladder (urgency, frequency, urge incontinence). Since his first sling surgery in 1998, together with his colleague, they have performed more than 10,000 cases and have more than 90% success rates with minimal complications and minimal pain. He is a trainer for gynaecologists / urogynaecologists / urologists in Asia in these surgeries.
Dr Chong's expertise include the treatment of female genital cancer, female sexual dysfunction, heavy periods, infertility, menopause, menstrual cramps, ovarian cysts, prolapses of the womb, bladder and bowel, sub-fertility, urinary incontinence, urinary tract infections, uterine fibroids, and vaginal discharges and infections. He also performs women's health screenings and colposcopy.
Dr Chong is a Ministry of Health accredited doctor in reproductive medicine, performing in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intra-uterine insemination treatments, helping many sub-fertile couples to conceive.
Dr Chong was a visiting consultant at the Urogynae Centre at KK Women's and Children's Hospital and a senior clinical lecturer teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and doctors.
Dr Chong is a past Board of Directors at the International Urogynecological Association (IUGA). He is presently a committee member of the Asia-Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is a member of the IUGA Editorial Board and is an invited reviewer of many international journals.
He presently serves as the president of the Singapore Urogynaecological Association, the founding board member and trustee of the Asia Pacific Urogynaecological Association, and an elected member of the Singapore Medical Council.
Dr Chong has won many awards for his patient care, including the KK CEO Heart Award for the staff with the most number of compliments from the staff and the public. He has also received awards for his research and studies and is a sought-after speaker internationally and with the media, having done a regular radio programme to educate the public for the last 13 years.
Delivering babies is still Dr Chong's passion. Since his first delivery of a baby in 1986, it is estimated that Dr Chong has delivered in the region of 10,000 babies. Dr Chong is well-versed with managing difficult and challenging high-risk pregnancies, and is supported by an experienced team of neonatologists working with him.
