Dr Nicholas Chua is an anaesthesiologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
He was the former head of the acute pain service in the department of anaesthesiology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
Dr Chua graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and obtained his master’s degree there. He completed his advanced specialist training in anaesthesiology at TTSH.
Pursuing his subspecialty interest, he completed his fellowship of the Interventional Pain Physician accreditation by the World Institute of Pain, USA. He completed his PhD at the Radboud University Medical Centre of Nijmegen, Netherlands, focusing on chronic neck pain and cervicogenic headache in clinical practice.
He is a certified diplomate with the American Academy of Pain Management and has also undergone training and certification in quantitative sensory testing for pain diagnostics in Bochum, Germany.
He is also a member of the scientific committee of the 7th and 8th World Congress of Pain. Dr Chua is an active reviewer for various journals including The Lancet, Neurosurgery, Neuromodulation, BJA, Pain Practice, Annals of Academy of Medicine-Singapore and The Open Pain Journal. He is currently the associate editor of the journal Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Spine & Neurosurgery and World Journal of Anesthesiology.
Dr Chua is the immediate past president in the Pain Association of Singapore. He is also the secretary of the chapter of pain, Academy of Medicine; sits on the examination board of World Institute of Pain (WIP); and is the WIP director of education for Asia.
