Experience
Dr Chua Wei Liang is an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His primary interest is in hip and knee arthroplasty, including uni-compartmental knee replacement and navigated or robotic joint replacement. He is also trained in anterior approach total hip replacement.
He was the former head of hip and knee replacement surgery at National University Hospital (NUH) and deputy head of department at Alexandra Hospital (AH). He is a currently a senior consultant in the department of orthopaedic surgery at NUH and AH. He is also a senior consultant of the division of adult deconstruction and joint replacement surgery at NUH.
Dr Chua graduated from the University College London, UK and subsequently got his master’s from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He later completed NUHS’ orthopaedic residency and was accepted as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. He completed two overseas fellowships in orthopaedic surgery – an AO Trauma Travelling Fellowship at E-DA Hospital, Taiwan, and a fellowship in hip and knee surgery at Wrightington Hospital, UK. He has been practising medicine for more than 15 years.
In addition, as deputy head of department at AH, he was involved in setting up the orthopaedic surgery service, with plans to develop a joint replacement centre there by 2027 when the new hospital is built.
Beyond his clinical duties, Dr Chua is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
