Dr Fong Yoke Fai is a specialist in obstetrics & gynaecology at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His key interests lie in the treatment of complex gynaecological problems such as endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts, and the use of microsurgical techniques for enhancing fertility.
Dr Fong won a fellowship programme in minimally invasive gynaecologic surgery in 2002, and became the lead surgeon in laparoscopic surgery at the National University Hospital (NUH) in 2004.
In 2008, he performed the first robotic surgery at NUH. His team was one of the first to perform the first robotic surgery for gynaecological cancer in the region. In 2009, Dr Fong was among the first to perform single incision surgery and multidisciplinary single incision surgery in the region.
In a medical breakthrough in 2014, Dr Fong and his team transplanted an ovarian tissue back into a patient with ovarian failure. This led to Asia’s first baby conceived naturally from implanted ovarian tissue.
Dr Fong was president of the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Singapore from 2011 – 2013, and chairman of the Asia & Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Endoscopy Committee from 2011 – 2015.
He became president of the 3rd Congress of Endometriosis and Uterine Disorders in 2017, and currently serves on the board of the Asian Society of Endometriosis and Adenomyosis.
