Dr Foo Chek Siang is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He has special interests in bariatric surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, and upper gastrointestinal surgery.
As part of his subspeciality training, Dr Foo was trained in advanced laparoscopic techniques in gastrointestinal surgery at the Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery in Bordeaux, France. Subsequently, through the HMDP award, he pursued a one-year fellowship at the St George Hospital, Kogarah-Sydney, Australia in 2008, where he honed his skills in advanced laparoscopy and upper gastrointestinal and bariatric work.
Prior to establishing his private practice, Dr Foo was a consultant in the department of general surgery at Changi General Hospital. During his tenure, he served as the director of the hospital's endoscopic centre.
Dr Foo was appointed as faculty of local master classes in advanced laparoscopic techniques as well as in the regional Asia Endosurgery Task Force. He continues to share his experience and encourages the adoption of advanced surgical techniques among the surgeons in South East Asia and wider East Asia.
As a clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, he is also actively involved in the moulding of future generations of doctors. He is also an attending faculty for the SingHealth General Surgery Residency Programme.
Dr Foo is a member of the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders.
His research involves oesophageal and gastric cancers, and bariatric and metabolic surgeries. He is also a reviewer for the Singapore Medical Journal and the World Journal of Surgical Oncology.
