Dr Heng Li Wei is an ophthalmologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
Her subspecialties are ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, lacrimal system and orbit. She is also handles general ophthalmology, dealing with common conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes, etc.
She was a senior consultant ophthalmologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), and is currently serving as a visiting consultant to the ophthalmology department there.
Dr Heng completed her medical school education at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and received her master’s degree in ophthalmology. She is a fellow with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in ophthalmology and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
She was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship and subsequently underwent a 12-month clinical fellowship at the McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She completed her fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive and orbital surgery.
She was previously involved in teaching medical students from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. She is also active in teaching ophthalmology residents at TTSH. Dr Heng has spoken at many oculoplastic meetings and symposiums locally and regionally.
She is a recipient of the Long Service Award (10 years) at TTSH.
Beyond her work, she is an avid trekker who loves the outdoors and the mountains, having trekked to places like Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal and Tour du Mont Blanc. She is also an aspiring canine behaviourist.
