Dr Ho Kok Sun is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
He specialises in treating colorectal diseases, and has a strong interest in minimally invasive colorectal surgery and advanced therapeutic endoscopy like gastroscopy and colonoscopy, as well as anal diseases like piles and abscesses.
He performs minimally invasive or keyhole large intestine and rectum surgeries, as well as single keyhole surgeries. He is one of the few surgeons in Singapore accredited to do robotic colorectal surgery.
Dr Ho attained his bachelor's degree at the National University of Singapore and completed his training in general surgery in 2002. He went on to pursue subspecialty training in colorectal surgery at Cleveland Clinic, USA.
He was formerly a senior consultant surgeon at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He was also appointed as the director of the Enterostomal Therapy Service, Transanal Ultrasound Lab and Endo-Lap Simulation Centre, and the deputy director of the Endoscopy Centre at SGH.
Dr Ho was the former president of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons, Singapore. He has also served as the organising chairman of 3 major international colorectal conferences and as the president for the biennial congress of the ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons in 2014.
He is the past president of the College of Surgeons Singapore, and the ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons. He is also the chair of the Faculty of Medical Experts, Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and a council member of Singapore Medical Council and the Fee Benchmark Advisory Committee, Ministry of Health. He is also an exit examiner in general surgery.
Dr Ho is the vice president in the Singapore-China Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology, and a founding member of the Eurasian Colorectal Technologies Association.
In the field of laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy, Dr Ho has conducted more than 20 animal laparoscopic workshops to instruct overseas surgeons. He has also taught medical students and advanced specialty trainees laparoscopic and endoscopic skills using simulation machines.
He has published more than 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals and books. He is also a reviewer and is on the editorial board of numerous journals. He has travelled to perform live surgery demonstrations and teach in countries such as China, Indonesia and Vietnam.
