Dr Daniel Lee is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He specialises in advanced colorectal cancer surgery such as exenteration or extended resection for recurrent rectal cancer, minimally invasive colorectal surgery, treatment of bowel dysfunction and anorectal disorder. He is also skilled in performing diagnostic endoscopy and more advanced work such as endoscopic mucosal resection, video-assisted anal fistula treatment, endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment, endorectal ultrasound and colonic stenting.
Dr Lee has also developed a niche in geriatric surgery and is actively involved in the development of perioperative work for older patients.
Prior to joining private practice, he was the head of colorectal service and the clinical lead for the geriatric surgical service at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Dr Lee graduated from Malaysia and completed his surgical training in Singapore, becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. He then pursued a colorectal fellowship at St James’s University Hospital, UK, where he specialised in the management of advanced and complex rectal cancer. To further equip himself to provide cover as a trauma specialist for the hospital, he then spent six months as a trauma fellow at The Royal London Hospital, UK.
Dr Lee has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, contributing research to the fields of colorectal and geriatric surgery. He was the recipient of two hospital research grants for his work on improving surgical outcomes.
In addition to his clinical work, he serves as an adjunct senior clinical lecturer at the National University of Singapore and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He is also one of the core faculty for the National Healthcare Group’s (NHG) surgical residency programme.
Dr Lee has been recognised with several awards including the NHG Recognition Team Award and the Quality Improvement awards.
