Dr Lee Kim En is a neurologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. His clinical interests include intensive care medicine and stroke treatment.
Dr Lee completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1993. He subsequently became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1996. He then pursued specialist training in neurology and was awarded a clinical and research fellowship in stroke and critical care neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, the teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where he worked with experts in neuroscience. He also did a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA.
Dr Lee was formerly the deputy director, education director and head of the Department of Neurology at the National Neuroscience Institute in Singapore, which served patients from the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Changi General Hospital (CGH), Alexandra Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).
During his time at the National Neuroscience Institute, Dr Lee played a pivotal role in establishing the acute stroke service, which made magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) available to all suspected ischaemic stroke patients. He also implemented the telestroke service, which allows neurologists to remotely evaluate acute stroke patients and recommend treatments to emergency doctors on-site. This initiative has been instrumental in supporting acute stroke patients admitted to CGH and KTPH.
Actively involved in clinical training, Dr Lee was a member of the residency advisory committee, and a member of the internal medicine residency program and senior residency program in neurology at SingHealth Services. At the Ministry of Health, Singapore, he chaired the committee for the 'Stroke Integrated Care Pathways' programme.
Dr Lee is currently a visiting consultant to the National Medical Research Council of the Ministry of Health and the Singapore Armed Forces. At the Mount Elizabeth Hospital, he is a member of the medical advisory board and he also serves in both the continuing medical education committee and nursing and allied health committee.
Aside from clinical work, Dr Lee is an adjunct associate professor in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at NUS, as well as in the Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore.
