Dr Leo Seo Wei is an ophthalmologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. She manages various aspects of general ophthalmology, such as cataract surgery, laser procedures and refractive surgery (LASIK).
She also has special interest in strabismus surgery that corrects misalignment of eyes, and paediatric conditions such as anterior segment diseases that affect the iris and lens, refractive errors and learning disabilities in children.
Dr Leo completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1996 with a gold medal and book prize in ophthalmology. After completing basic specialist training at the Singapore National Eye Centre, National University Hospital (NUH) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Dr Leo became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Ophthalmology), UK in 2000 and obtained her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2001.
In 2004, Dr Leo received the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award from the Ministry of Health, Singapore to pursue 2 intensive clinical fellowships in the USA. The 1st fellowship was at the University of Michigan and the Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor, USA under the tutelage of Professors Monte Del Monte and Steven Archer. The 2nd fellowship was with the renowned Dr Kenneth Wright in Wright Centre for paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus in Los Angeles, USA.
Dr Leo was formerly a senior consultant ophthalmologist in the Department of Ophthalmology at TTSH, where she set up and helmed the Eye Alignment Clinic and the Children’s Eye Centre. She was also the head of the Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Department at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute. She is currently a senior visiting consultant to TTSH and the Kandang Kerbau Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH).
Aside from clinical work, Dr Leo was also a clinical lecture at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in NUS. She was also part of the core faculty in the Singapore Polytechnic- Manchester University Optometry degree programme and the inaugural faculty for the American Association for Paediatric Ophthalmology-TianJin Eye Centre Paediatric Ophthalmology fellowship programme.
Dr Leo has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. She has been frequently invited to conduct instructional workshops at international conferences in Asia Pacific, Europe and USA. She has also performed live surgeries at various international conferences.
