Dr Liew Woei Kang is a paediatrician at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He subspecialises in paediatric allergy, immunology and rheumatology.
He provides comprehensive care for allergy disorders such as eczema, food and drug allergies, asthma and allergic rhinitis. He also handles complex immunological disorders like primary immunodeficiencies and evaluation of recurrent infections, and treats rheumatological disorders like Kawasaki disease, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and Henoch Schonlein Purpura.
Prior to starting private practice, Dr Liew was a consultant paediatrician in the allergy service and rheumatology & immunology service at the department of paediatrics at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
He underwent advanced training in paediatric allergy and immunology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr Liew was an adjunct assistant professor in Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He continues to be a visiting consultant to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
He received several research grants from the National Medical Research Council, SingHealth Foundation and KKH Research Centre to pursue clinical research in paediatric anaphylaxis, drug allergy, primary immunodeficiencies and Kawasaki disease.
Dr Liew is passionate about medical education and has won SingHealth’s Outstanding Young Teacher’s Award in 2007, and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine’s Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2010.
He is also the recipient of the Excellent Service Award in 2007 and Service with a Heart Award in 2010.
Dr Liew continues to be actively involved in his professional interests. He is the executive board member of the Asia Pacific Society for Primary Immunodeficiency, and workgroup chair for Registry and Research.
He is also the immediate-past president of the Asthma & Allergy Association in Singapore, and the immediate-past president of the College of Paediatrics and Child Health Singapore at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
He is one of the few local specialists to be awarded an international fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
