Dr Terence Lim is a urologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His subspecialty is uro-oncology. His clinical interests include minimally invasive and robotic urological surgery, urinary stone disease, endourology and prostate health.
Prior to private practice, he was a senior consultant and chief of the department of urology at Changi General Hospital (CGH). At CGH, he started the metastatic prostate cancer clinic and fast access to stone therapy service. He remains as the hospital’s visiting consultant.
At CGH, he was on its robotic surgery credentialing committee and helped set up the robotic surgery programme. In addition, he was a member of various committees at the hospital. Also at CGH, he was the director of CGH’s Advanced Surgical Centre, which dealt with complex surgeries including robotic surgery. He operated using all three generations of the da Vinci surgical system and is amongst the earliest urologists in Singapore to operate using the latest generation of this technology.
He has been involved in more than 700 robotic surgeries and was the earliest doctor in Singapore to perform a robot-assisted Retzius-sparing prostatectomy.
He has been practising medicine for more than 15 years.
Dr Lim graduated from the National University of Singapore and went on to obtain his membership to the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and his master's degree in surgery. He is also a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He did his fellowship training in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
He was a clinical/adjunct associate professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and an adjunct assistant professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He is also a certified instructor of advanced trauma life support at the Singapore Armed Forces. He was a member of the urology residency advisory committee and site director (CGH) of the SingHealth urology residency programme, and is often invited to be an examiner for graduating medical students and exiting urology residents.
Dr Lim is regularly invited to chair and give lectures and presentations at various local and international conferences, and has also been invited as a key speaker at international and regional conferences.
He also has a keen interest in clinical research and has published in over 40 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He was also involved in medical innovation projects and had received several grants and patents.
He was a founding member of the Robotic Surgery Society of Singapore, and member of the Society for Men’s Health Singapore, among others. He is currently on the exco-committee of the Singapore Urology Association and a member of the Singapore Cancer Society prostate cancer survival advisory panel.
Dr Lim is a recipient of several Singapore Health Quality Service Awards.
