Dr Lim Wee Kiak is an ophthalmologist with about 15 years experience in the field. He provides specialised care for patients with cataract and short-sightedness in his clinics at Mount Elizabeth Novena, Mount Elizabeth and Parkway East Hospitals.
Upon his graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS, 1992), he underwent basic training and subsequently obtained his postgraduate qualifications in Ophthalmology (M Med, 1998). That same year he was also inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ophth) in Edinburgh and of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in UK. In 2003, he was appointed Senior Staff Fellow at the National Eye Institute in Maryland, USA. There, he completed a one-year fellowship in Uveitis, Ocular Inflammation and Immunology under the mentorship of Dr Robert B Nussenblatt.
Prior to establishing his private practice, Dr Lim was a consultant and Head of the Ocular Inflammation and Uveitis Service at the National Healthcare Group’s The Eye Institute. His years there allowed him to gain valuable experience in performing numerous advanced small incision cataract surgeries with wavefront, toric and mutifocal intraocular lenses as well as various LASIK procedures such as femto-laser bladeless LASIK, Epi-LASIK and the no touch all laser Epi-LASIK procedures. He remains a Visiting Consultant to Department of Ophthalmology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and an Adviser to the Society of Opticianry Practitioners, Singapore.
Dr Lim’s commitment to his field extends beyond his clinic and his patients. Besides initiating the Eagle myopia control programme in 2007, he is also a member of the American Uveitis Society, the International Ocular Inflammation Society and the International Uveitis Study Group. Most recently, he was appointed as Chairman of the Uveitis and Ocular Inflammation Subspecialty committee of the College of Ophthalmologists, Singapore and as Chairman of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Optometry Advisory Committee.
A well-published ophthalmologist, Dr Lim has more than 20 scientific papers to his name in peer-reviewed journals. He has also authored several book chapters. A regular name on the invited speakers’ list, Dr Lim has given over 50 lectures at regional and international eye surgeon conferences.
