Dr Joshua Loh is a cardiologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He specialises in interventional cardiology and in the treatment of complex coronary artery diseases. He is experienced with coronary physiology and imaging, as well as calcified vessel treatment with atherectomy and lithotripsy. He is also familiar with the use of drug-coated balloons, bioresorbable and drug-eluting stents.
Dr Loh is a visiting consultant at the National University Health System. He was previously a senior consultant, assistant professor and patient safety officer at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS). There, he was instrumental in starting the heart attack and cardiac intensive care services, and established the pulmonary thrombectomy service.
Dr Loh is one of the earliest doctors to use distal transradial artery access for coronary angiogram and angioplasty. He has performed more than 5,000 complex percutaneous coronary interventions (angioplasty).
He graduated with bachelor and master’s degrees from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK. He completed his specialist training at NUHCS. He was awarded the Academic Medicine Development Award and completed 2 years of advanced training in interventional cardiology and research at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, USA. There, he gained experience in complex procedures while keeping updated with the latest research.
In recognition of his professional achievements, Dr Loh was elected fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, UK; fellow of the American College of Cardiology; fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions; fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (AMS); fellow of the ASEAN College of Cardiology; fellow of the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology; and fellow of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology.
He is an assistant professor at NUS, and is also a faculty member for undergraduate and postgraduate training and examiner for the MBBS examination. He is regularly invited for lectures and case demonstrations in international meetings, and is a regional proctor in complex coronary interventions in Southeast Asia. He is a strong advocate of patient and clinical care, and is the recipient of 3 Quality Improvement Awards.
Dr Loh has authored more than 80 papers in renowned medical journals. He is a subspecialty editor for the Singapore Medical Journal and is on the editorial board for several other medical journals. He was the principal investigator in many international clinical trials.
He was the organising chair for the Singapore Cardiac Society (SCS) annual scientific meeting from 2015 to 2017, and holds key positions in SCS, Chapter of Cardiologists (AMS), Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology, and Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology.
