Dr Alvin Ng is a cardiologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He specialises in interventional cardiology, general cardiology, and cardiovascular imaging. His work in interventional cardiology involves diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease and heart conditions through a process called catheterisation.
Dr Ng began his medical training at the Singapore General Hospital. In 2001, he received a scholarship for studies in nuclear cardiology from the Ministry of Health, and became a fellow at the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, USA.
Dr Ng is one of the few doctors in Singapore to receive a second scholarship for medical training. He completed his formal training in interventional cardiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA.
In 2002, Dr Ng set up the nuclear cardiology service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Under his leadership, more than 2,000 nuclear cardiology studies were performed every year. He also served as the director of the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit for more than 5 years.
Dr Ng was appointed adjunct assistant professor at the National University of Singapore in 2009. He has presented at major cardiovascular meetings including the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions and the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics.
Dr Ng received awards in teaching at the National University of Singapore from 2010 – 2013. In the following year, he also received a Role Model Award.
His current areas of interest include complex cardiovascular therapeutics, transradial coronary intervention, sports cardiology and intervention for hypertension.
