Dr Ng Chee Kwan is an urologist currently practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. Dr Ng has a subspecialty interest in surgery for urological cancers, laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery including robotic surgery, treatment of prostate problems and inguinal hernia.
Dr Ng is currently exploring new techniques for prostate cancer diagnosis, including MRI-US fusion guided biopsy of the prostate.
Graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS, 1994), Dr Ng underwent basic training and completed post-graduate qualifications in Surgery (FRCS Glasgow & Edinburgh, 1999 & 2000). In 2004, he completed his Advanced Surgical Training in Urology in Singapore. The following year, through the Health Manpower Development Programme award, he pursued a fellowship in Urologic Cancer Surgery at the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
Prior to his move to private practice, Dr Ng was a consultant at the Department of Urology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he set up the urological cancer clinic and picked up extensive experience in minimally invasive urological procedures.
Research is an area of interest for Dr Ng. With a research grant awarded by the National Healthcare Group, he investigated the role of antibiotic therapy in the management of patients with elevated serum PSA. He was actively involved in clinical trials of novel compounds for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
Dr Ng’s commitment to the field of urology extends beyond his clinic and patients. He is a currently a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Mt Elizabeth Novena Hospital, and a council member of the Singapore Medical Association. He was previously honorary general secretary of the Singapore Urological Association, chairman of the Prostate Awareness Month campaign and chairman of the Urology Fair.
