Dr Ng Kai Lyn is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist (O&G) at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
Her subspecialty is in urogynaecology and minimally invasive surgery, while her clinical interest is in fertility.
Prior to going into private practice, she was a consultant in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at the National University Hospital (NUH) and a visiting consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. In addition to her daily work as an obstetrician, she has gained experience in managing and treating benign gynaecological conditions including uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometrial polyps, endometriosis and fertility issues.
Dr Ng obtained her medical degree and master’s degree in O&G from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK, with full specialist accreditation in Singapore. Dr Ng was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan award by the Ministry of Health and completed a urogynaecology fellowship at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan. There, she furthered her skills in female pelvic medicine, overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, obstetric anal sphincter injuries. She also trained in surgical techniques in pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic floor reconstructive surgery.
Besides her clinical work, she is part of NUS School of Medicine’s undergraduate teaching faculty and clinical core faculty for NUH’s PGY1 residency programme. She also holds several other academic positions including chief examination invigilator, principal site investigator for multinational novel drugs for uterine fibroids, and co-investigator for prospective studies of women’s mid-life urogynaecological health issues.
She has sat on the organising committees of both local and international medical conferences including bringing the 46th International Urogynecological Association (IUGA) conference to Singapore and published in peer-reviewed journals with international collaborators. She is a recipient of NUH O&G Teaching Excellence Award and NUH Long Service Award.
Being one of the few Asian trainers who has completed the IUGA PROTECT (Prevention and Repair Of perineal Trauma Episiotomy through Coordinated Training) programme, Dr Ng has held regular workshops on this for trainees and specialists. She has also received awards for quality improvement projects that she has led at NUH, and contributed to undergraduate O&G textbooks.
