Dr Ng Kheng Hong is a general surgeon and colorectal surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
His expertise includes the use of minimally invasive surgery to treat colorectal cancer, gallbladder stones, appendicitis, abdominal and groin hernia.
He also treats conditions such as abdominal pain, adhesions, anal abscesses, anal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, gastric pain and ulcers, piles, rectal bleeding and skin lumps.
From 2000, Dr Ng started training as a general surgeon and colorectal surgeon in Singapore General Hospital. He was then posted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at the University of Birmingham, UK, in 2004, as a specialist registrar in general surgery. In 2006, he was awarded by the Ministry of Health to pursue further training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He was the director of minimally invasive surgery in the department of colorectal surgery at Singapore General Hospital from 2009 to 2010, and after that, started his private practice at Gleneagles Hospital.
Dr Ng was given the SingHealth HMDP Fellowship Award for advanced training in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery.
He has been invited to give lectures on single incision laparoscopic surgery in colorectal surgery both locally and internationally.
He is an adjunct assistant professor in the faculty of medicine at the National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and is a visiting senior consultant surgeon at KK Children's and Women's Hospital.
In 2010, he was awarded the Long Service Award by Singapore General Hospital.
He was the former chairman of the Medical Quality Assurance Committee, and the Medical Advisory Board at Gleneagles Hospital. He is the current chairman of the Chapter of General Surgeon, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Dr Ng has published more than 30 scientific papers in peer-reviewed medical journals, including 'Experience of 3711 stapled haemorrhoidectomy operations' in the British Journal of Surgery, and 'Laparoscopic resection for rectal cancers – Lessons learnt from 579 cases' in the Annals of Surgery.
