Dr David Ong is a gastroenterologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
He is experienced in treating and managing conditions of the stomach, bowel and liver, and his subspecialty is in treating inflammatory bowel diseases (such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) with a focus on colorectal cancer surveillance and gut microbiome.
Dr Ong was the head of gastroenterology and hepatology at the National University Hospital (NUH) and remains as a visiting senior consultant.
Whilst at NUH, he held the positions of divisional director of clinical services, director of risk and values at the NUH cluster, and associate chairman of the medical board (medicolegal risk).
He holds an adjunct associate professorship at National University of Singapore (NUS)’s department of medicine and is also an advisor and chair of the nomination committee of the international council.
He serves as the incoming president of the Gastroenterology Society of Singapore and the honorary secretary of the Chapter of Gastroenterology, Academy of Medicine. In addition, he has served as a member of the Singapore Medical Council Complaints Panel since 2016.
Dr Ong helped set up the inflammatory bowel disease unit at NUH and has published widely in this area. He has also been a speaker at local and global conferences on the topic.
In addition, he has served on multiple advisory boards of pharmaceutical companies, advising them on new treatments and advances in the field.
