Dr Ooi Boon Swee is a general surgeon practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. His clinical expertise includes colorectal and anal surgeries, which encompasses minimally invasive/keyhole surgery and robotic surgery.
Dr Ooi attained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1992 and became a surgical fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland in 1996. He then received training in colorectal surgery at the Department of Colorectal Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
Dr Ooi was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship to pursue training in advanced colorectal surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia in 1998 and then at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, USA in 2002 under the guidance of world renowned colorectal surgeons Professor Victor Fazio and Dr James Church.
Dr Ooi was formerly the director of minimally invasive surgery, senior consultant of the Department of Colorectal Surgery and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre, and the deputy chairman of the Tripartite Robotic-Assisted Surgery Committee. Dr Ooi was also a visiting senior consultant at the National Cancer Centre and Changi General Hospital (CGH) and honorary secretary of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons of Singapore from 2004 – 2005.
Dr Ooi has been an associate professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School and a senior lecturer of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at NUS.
