Dr Melanie Seah is a general surgeon practising in Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
She specialises in the management of breast diseases, including benign diseases and breast cancer, and she has a special interest in breast cancer oncoplastic surgery.
She is practised in performing oncoplastic surgery techniques that have ideal oncologic outcomes and cosmetic results. These can range from breast conservation procedures to skin sparing and nipple sparing mastectomies with immediate breast reconstruction. She is actively involved in breast cancer screening and performing breast biopsies such as vacuum assisted biopsies and surgical biopsies.
Dr Seah has served as an associate consultant and then as a consultant with the department of general surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
Dr Seah embarked on her medical training with the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1995, followed by her residency training in general surgery at TTSH. This subsequently led to her fellowship accreditation in general surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK.
She was later awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship by the Ministry of Health to further hone her clinical skills in breast oncoplastic surgery at the Marient Hospital in Duesseldorf, Germany.
Dr Seah believes in the importance of mentoring students who will eventually be doctors looking after the generations to come. She served as a senior clinical lecturer with the department of surgery at NUS’ Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and as a clinical teacher with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
She has presented and lectured at many local and international conferences and as authorship of numerous peer-reviewed, indexed medical journal articles.
