Dr Anthony Siow is an obstetrician and gynaecologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
His expertise is in endometriosis, general gynaecology such as menstruation irregularities, infertility and menopausal adjustments, as well as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
He has more than 20 years of institutional practice and was the first director of minimally invasive surgery centre, KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital (KKH). There, he spearheaded the laparoscopic fellowship training programme, and established the endometriosis clinic. He also started the laparoscopic suturing workshop at KKH.
Dr Siow was awarded the Singapore government scholarship for advanced laparoscopic surgery in Sydney, Australia where he spent a year honing his skills in advanced endometriosis surgery and pelvic floor reconstruction.
He is the earliest gynaecologist in Singapore to perform single-incision laparoscopy for hysterectomy and myomectomy and is the earliest gynaecologist in Singapore to perform combined myomectomy and cholecystectomy by single-incision laparoscopy with general surgeon. He is frequently invited to lecture on and demonstrate single-incision laparoscopy overseas. As a result, he performed the earliest single-incision laparoscopic hysterectomy in Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. He is also among the few gynaecologists in the region who has done more than 400 cases of single-incision laparoscopy surgery.
He is frequently sought for a second or even third opinion on complex gynaecological issues. Hence after 20 years of obstetrics practice, Dr Siow has stopped delivering babies and is focused on helping women with their gynaecological health which may involve the need for complex gynaecological surgery. He was awarded the KKH Service with a Heart Award in 2007 to 2011.
His passion for teaching advanced laparoscopy has attracted specialists from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and the region to train with him. He was awarded outstanding clinical teacher award in 2007 and appointed visiting professor for laparoscopy at the University of Philippines in 2009.
