Dr Petrina Tan is an ophthalmologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore.
She specialises in eye-related plastic surgery (droopy upper eyelid, double-eyelid creation, lower-eyelid eyebags and eyelid lesions removal, lacrimal surgery which includes the management of tearing, nasolacrimal tear duct obstruction and infections, and orbital surgery (thyroid eye disease, orbital fractures and orbital tumours).
She also treats a range of eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, dry eyes and myopia in the young.
Dr Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore and then attained fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK, and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She received the Health Manpower Development Plan award and further advanced her subspecialty training in oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital, UK.
She started the oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital service at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and was the earliest doctor to perform the posterior approach “scarless” ptosis surgery.
She is active in research publications and has published widely in the field of rehabilitation of patients with facial nerve palsy, posterior approach ptosis surgery and dermal fillers.
Dr Tan received several Long Service Awards.
