Dr Tan Wee Boon is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His interests include hernia and endocrine surgery, where he manages conditions related to thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. Another key interest is surgery for common soft tissue growth such as lipomas and sebaceous cysts, and advanced retroperitoneal sarcomas.
Prior to private practice, Dr Tan was a senior consultant in the department of general surgery at the National University Hospital (NUH), where he was instrumental in the multi-disciplinary thyroid cancer service. He still holds the position of visiting consultant at NUH.
He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He obtained a fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK and subsequently received the Academic Medicine Development Award. He went for his fellowship training in endocrine surgery at the University College of London Hospital, UK as well as at Yonsei University, South Korea for training in robotic thyroidectomy.
Dr Tan has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and attends local and international conferences regularly. He was the NUS chief convenor in the final surgical exam for final-year medical students. He is also an adjunct assistant professor in NUH.
