Dr Gamaliel Tan is an orthopaedic spine surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His specialty is in spine surgery. He is experienced in endoscopic spine surgery and motion preservation spine procedures (artificial disc replacements), providing an alternative to standard spine surgery. He also manages all conditions of the spine related to degeneration, fractures, tumours, infections and deformity of the spine.
Dr Tan was the former head of the spine division at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and started the endoscopic spine services there. He continues to be a visiting consultant at NTFGH and the National University Hospital.
He graduated from the National University of Singapore. He received the Health Manpower Development Plan award and did his training at Toronto Western Hospital, Canada.
He started the department of orthopaedics at NTFGH and served as the head of department. He also served as the group chief medical informatics officer for the National University Hospital System and helped implement the cluster EMR system. He has been practising medicine for more than 25 years.
Dr Tan is a member of the Singapore Spine Society and AOSpine Society. He served as a council member of the AOSpine East Asia group.
He is the recipient of the Ministry of Health Public Service Administration Medal and National University Health System Long Service Award.
