Dr Jim Teo Yeow Kwan is a respiratory physician and intensivist practising at Gleneagles Hospital and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore.
Dr Teo graduated from the National University of Singapore with M.B.B.S. He subsequently completed his training in internal medicine and obtained the M.R.C.P (UK) and M. Med (Internal Medicine). He was further trained in respiratory medicine & intensive care medicine in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). Dr Teo is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Chapter of Respiratory Physicians) and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is also a member of the European Respiratory Society.
Dr Teo furthered his advanced training in intensive care medicine as a fellow at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Australia under Professor Peter Vernon van Heerden, president of the College of Intensive Care Medicine. Currently, he is a member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and has obtained his European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDIC). Prior to entering private practice, Dr Teo was a consultant in the Department of Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He managed patients in the medical intensive care unit (MICU), including critically ill cases from the H1N1 outbreak and patients from Johns Hopkins Singapore International Medical Centre. He also initiated the first bedside percutaneous tracheostomy in the MICU. He provided care for critically ill patients on non-invasive ventilation in the Non-invasive Unit of the hospital. Dr Teo also managed tuberculosis patients in the TB Control Unit.
For his achievements in the public sector, Dr Teo was awarded the Courage Star Award in 2003 for his contribution during the SARS outbreak. Dr Teo is an intensive care medicine trainer appointed by the Specialist Training Committee in Singapore. He was an instructor for intensive care medicine courses in various public hospitals and a clinical teacher with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Dr Teo is currently an instructor for courses such as Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course and Fundamental Critical Care Support Course.
Dr Teo is experienced in the clinical management of patients with lung tumours, pneumonia, asthma, chronic cough, interstitial lung disease, sleep disorders and non-invasive ventilation and has published papers in local and international peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented papers at local and international conferences.
