Dr Eric Wee is a gastroenterologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He specialises in digestive and bowel problems such as gastric pain, reflux, bloating and irritable bowel syndrome, as well as pancreatic and liver diseases (viral hepatitis, fatty liver and cirrhosis).
With more than 15 years of experience, Dr Wee performs advanced endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP for bile duct stones and strictures), endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration, capsule endoscopy and small bowel enteroscopy. He is also trained to perform the fibroscan, a non-invasive modality to evaluate the liver for fibrosis and cirrhosis.
Prior to joining private practice, Dr Wee was the head of the division of gastroenterology and chairman of the nutrition workgroup at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He was also a visiting consultant at the gastroenterology departments of Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National University Hospital.
He obtained his bachelor's degrees and master's degree in internal medicine from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopy at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology.
He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK; a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, US; a member of the faculty of medical experts and a fellow of the Academy of Medicine in gastroenterology. He was previously elected to the executive committees of the Gastroenterological Society of Singapore and the Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. He was also a senior clinical lecturer at NUS and the associate programme director of the National Healthcare Group (NHG) gastroenterology residency programme.
Dr Wee has performed more than 10,000 endoscopic procedures and more than 2,000 advanced procedures including ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. He has received several awards including Expat Living Readers’ Choice Awards (Gastroenterologist), Alexandra Health Service Champion Award (Service), National Healthcare Group Quality Pillar Award (Service) and National Excellent Service Award (Gold).
He has published articles and co-authored book chapters on gastric pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, endoscopy and nutrition. In 2018, he was appointed an independent medical expert by the Academy of Medicine to assess the treatment rendered by other specialists.
