Dr Wong Chee Wai is an ophthalmologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
He was a former consultant in the surgical retina department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC).
Dr Wong obtained his bachelor and master’s degrees from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed his specialist training in ophthalmology at SNEC. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. After obtaining his specialist accreditation, he completed his vitreoretinal subspecialty fellowship training for both medical and surgical retina at SNEC. He also completed a master’s in clinical investigation at NUS and a PhD in ocular drug delivery at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
He started the high myopia clinic at SNEC as well as the vitreoretinal service at Sengkang Hospital.
He has published more than 70 research articles and holds several research grants in myopia and ocular drug delivery.
Dr Wong has been awarded many awards for his research work, including travel grants, prizes at international ophthalmology conferences and the SingHealth Publish Award.
Besides his clinical work, he served as SNEC’s deputy director of undergraduate education and was the programme director of the Duke-NUS Medical School’s ophthalmology programme.
He is also a committee member of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology (SSO), and the chair of SSO Young Ophthalmologist’s Chapter.
Dr Wong has more than 20 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and regularly presents at international meetings. He is also a peer reviewer for major eye journals including Ophthalmology and Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science.
He is a recipient of the SingHealth Healthcare Heroes Award, Young Eye Ambassador Award (Eye and Vision) and SingHealth Quality Service Award.
