Dr Yap Wee See is a respiratory physician at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His subspecialties are in sleep medicine, intensive care medicine and internal medicine.
Dr Yap was the former head of department and senior consultant of the department of respiratory and critical care medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He is also currently a visiting consultant at TTSH and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan Award and spent a year in advanced training in sleep medicine and bronchology at the Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia, Canada. He is trained in lung cancer and interventional bronchology, including Nd:YAG laser, rigid bronchoscopy, airway stenting and endobronchial ultrasound.
At TTSH, he played a key role in setting up the sleep laboratory and sleep clinic.
Dr Yap is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore; the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, UK; the Royal College of Physicians of London, UK; and the American College of Chest Physicians, USA.
He spearheaded the development of curriculum planning in respiratory medicine at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He was appointed an adjunct associate professor, teaching the inaugural academic year of medical students at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He has also been involved in teaching medical students at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS.
Dr Yap has received several awards including The Commendation Medal by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Healthcare Humanity Award and the Courage Star Award for his work fighting the SARS virus.
