How is schwannoma diagnosed?
Diagnosis of schwannoma typically involves:
- Medical history and physical examination.
- Imaging tests such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Computerised Tomography (CT) scans to visualise the tumour's size and location.
- Biopsy or surgical removal of the tumour for histopathological examination to confirm the diagnosis.
How is schwannoma treated?
Treatment for schwannoma depends on the size, location, and symptoms caused by the tumour and may include:
- Regular monitoring in cases where the tumours are small and asymptomatic.
- Surgical removal for symptomatic schwannomas. The goal is to remove the tumour without damaging the surrounding nerves.
- Radiation therapy in cases where surgery is risky, to reduce the size of the tumour or control its growth.
