Renal Medicine (Kidney) - Overview

What is renal medicine?

Renal medicine (or nephrology) is a specialty that provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of kidney diseases. It also involves the care of patients who require renal replacement therapy, i.e. dialysis and kidney transplantation.

Examples of kidney conditions include electrolyte and acid-base disturbances, acute and chronic kidney disease, urinary tract infections, and glomerulonephritis.

Your doctor will customise a treatment plan for you after:

  • Assessing your symptoms, and
  • Conducting in-depth tests to determine your condition
